How long since your last flight/recommend? I expect you'll be fine, but it's all about how you personally feel. If you feel like you can pass the test, then go for it. You don't get a recommend unless your instructor is confident you'll pass, so chances are very likely you'll pass, barring a random fuckup, which can happen whether you flew two months ago or two days ago. When I partialled my RPP, I had flown the day before. I made a better landing my first time after not flying in 10 years.

Yep, if you think about it, it's scary. The way attrition is going, with negotiations for a competitive contract in a stalemate, a lot of the new hires are regional FO's with not an hour of PIC time outside of their instructor days. They may fly the 767 for a few hours a month for two years (a guy from my Feb 2016 class hasn't even finished consolidating), and then they will upgrade after maybe two and a half years. At which point if things in Congress go a certain way, they may possibly be flying with a sub-1000 hour FO who doesn't even have regional experience...

...with a couple of hundred US soldiers sitting in the back, around conflict airspace, with Trump in power.

Let that sink in.

This is an awesome job with a fantastic pilot group (for now), flying insanely sweet aircraft; but with a really stupid management group bordering on criminally negligent. I'm having a blast, but unless we get a good contract yesterday to attract quality pilots in command, it's a powder keg.

It's crazy, thinking about how much I've learned just in the past few months building time toward my CPL, and thinking about how much I still don't know. Even if I could get a regional FO job or something right after completing my multi/IFR, I don't know it would be a good idea. I had a conversation with the assistant CFI from my FTU (ironically, right before he left for a job at a regional) and he said, "yeah, I've got over 2000 hours and there's still so much to learn and improve upon."

I don't want to say that Sully is right, but I'm not sure he's entirely wrong either. The fundamental problem with the industry, as I see it, is that pilots really do benefit from experience, and experience is loving expensive, no matter who ends up paying for it.

Well, there are different roads. If you're rich, you buy your own. If you're connected, you can fly someone else's. Like in WWII, the prerequisite to any big single seat warbird is T-6 time, and there are many places to get training in that. For me, I got my start when I ran away with the circus to do T-6 rides with a touring ride company. Later, that experience helped me get hired at an acro school, where I taught for 5 years and got typed in the L-39 to do intro lessons. The TBM was for a project that didn't pan out... also kind of a favor to me.

I can't speak to the insurance aspect of things.
